Confirming that Mazda Road to 24 Scholarship Winner Michael Carter will join the Maryland based outfit and contest the complete 2019 Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich Tires beginning next weekend at the famed Circuit of the Americas.

“We are welcoming Michael to the Copeland Motorsports squad and as we do with all of our drivers, ad will look to provide him with opportunities to succeed both on and off the track,” expressed Dean Copeland. “Michael is a superb, young talent and a great ambassador of Mazda Motorsports, the Road to 24 and we are confident he will do the same for Copeland Motorsports. We can’t wait to get the season started next weekend.”

“I think right from the get-go, Dean and Kevin Copeland and myself we were on the same page and spoke the same language when it comes to racing,” explained Carter. “They have been a tremendous help to us, are hardworking guys and want nothing more than for me to succeed this year. Having a fast teammate in Bryan Ortiz is going to be extremely valuable as we visit tracks I have never driven before.”

Carter continued, “This season, I am going after Rookie of the Year honors. I want to focus on consistent finishes throughout the season and see where that puts me going into the last two weekends, and if I am in contention, I will push for the championship.”

With the 2019 Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich Tires kicking off next weekend, March 22-24, at the Circuit of the Americas, Copeland Motorsports will enter a quintet of drivers. Joining Michael Carter will be young rookie hot shoes Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez, as well as multi-time race winner Bryan Ortiz and series veteran Racer Kashima.
